Football club offers to replace stolen Great Ormond Street presents

Celtic Football Club has volunteered to replace the Christmas presents stolen from Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The 20 wrapped gifts, including electronics, games and toys, were intended for sick children being treated at its intensive care unit.

Police believe they were snatched sometime between Friday and Monday.

A Celtic spokesman said: ?I?m sure everyone will have been shocked by the news that these presents were stolen from Great Ormond Street Hospital, and we are only too happy to help where we can in replacing these presents for the children.

?Great Ormond Street Hospital is renowned throughout the world for helping many, many children.

?Celtic?s charitable roots have meant the club has always tried to help those most in need, and like everyone else, we?re delighted to support the fantastic work the hospital do.?

A spokesman for Great Ormond Street Hospital said the stolen items have since been replaced but added they would welcome any donations.

She said: ?We have been overwhelmed by generous offers from individuals and companies to replace the missing items.

?These items have now been replaced by a long term supporter. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us for their concern and kindness.?

In addition, the Apprentice star and businessman Lord Sugar tweeted his disgust this morning and also volunteered to pay for their replacements.

Investigating officer, Insp Neal Anderson added: ?To steal presents that were supposed to be for children too sick to be at home with their families at Christmas is beyond belief.?
